HOW TO PREVENT MOULD PROBLEMS FROM RETURNING?

Whether you have identified mould in your premises or have begun the process of mould remediation, addressing the underlying cause of mould is an essential first step in mould remediation and can help prevent mould from occurring again. The preventative measures listed below have to do with limiting mould’s access to the key ingredients it needs to survive and thrive. As you’ll see, sometimes it’s easy to disrupt the infestation. Other times, you’ll need to be a bit more involved

TOP 6 TIPS TO PREVENT MOULD

WINDOWS

■ Open curtains during the day.
■ Make sure window vents are always open.
■ Wipe moisture left on windows if appeared.

HEATING

■ Heat your home to a constant minimum of 19-21°C while occupied.

VENTILATION

■ Opening windows removes moist air. ■ Furniture should be kept away from external walls. ■ Avoid filling storage cupboard with too many items. ■ Use extractor fans in kitchen and bathrooms at all times.

COOKING AND BATHING

■ Close all doors when cooking or bathing. ■ Use extractor fans if possible with open windows. ■ Place lids on pans and pots when cooking

BATHROOMS

■ After use, leave the door closed with a fan on and window open for at least an hour if possible. ■ Wipe down the shower equipment, tiles and mirror after each use.

DRYING CLOTHES

■ Try to always dry clothes outside. If not possible, use an airer in a well ventilated room. ■ Leave the window open and door closed. ■ Do not be tempted to leave clothes dry in bedrooms.
